The Launch Machine

The Hip Press

A standard leg press can force the user into unsupported lumbar flexion deep in the movement, exposing the lower back to shear load. It limits range of motion, and it doesn't fit every body on your floor. We re-engineered the whole movement, so every member trains harder, safer, and through a full range of motion.

  • Lumbar supported in the flexed position, so there's less lower-back pressure and more range
  • Adjusts from a glute-dominant press, to a horizontal leg press, all the way to a squat press
  • Pendulum footplate keeps force expression correct through the full range of the rep
  • Automatic un-rack and a safety spotter feature built in
How We Design

We Design For The Lifter Who Needs It Most.

Picture two lifters, one with healthy knees and one with bad knees. If a machine only hurts the compromised lifter, and another lets both train pain-free, everyone should be on the one that is more anatomically correct. So we build for the lifter who needs it most, then make it tough enough for the strongest to push their limits.

The Film

See It In Action.

The founder and designer walks through the machine, why it exists and what it fixes.

The Engineering

Ten Reasons It's Better.

Every feature exists for a biomechanical reason. No gimmicks, just design decisions that change the training outcome.

Shoulder pads on the PHD Hip Press
01

Shoulder Pads

Braced through the shoulders, not your grip, so you get more stability and the grip limitation of a standard leg press is gone.

Lumbar-supporting backrest profile
02

Lumbar Support

A straight backrest can force unsupported lumbar flexion, the source of back pain and injury. Supporting the lumbar in the flexed position cuts lower-back pressure and increases range of motion.

Adjustable backrest mechanism
03

Highly Adjustable Back

Go from a strict glute press, to a horizontal leg press, to a squat press. Change muscle-group bias, find a comfortable setting, and accommodate every mobility level.

Adjustable foot plate angle mechanism
04

Adjustable Foot Plate

Arguably the best feature. Change the angle to suit ankle mobility and ensure correct force expression, so you get more hypertrophy with less injury and discomfort.

Pendulum foot plate on the PHD Hip Press
05

Pendulum Foot Plate Motion

The footplate holds the same angle through the entire movement, less ankle flexion, correct force expression from start to finish.

Automatic un-rack mechanism
06

Automatic Un-Rack

No manual un-rack where the movement begins, which is exactly where instability usually happens.

Spotter re-racking the weight while the lifter stays in the machine
07

Safety Spotter Feature

A training partner or PT can re-rack the weight while the user is still in the machine. Drastically safer.

Plate-loaded variable resistance system
08

Variable Resistance

Your legs get stronger through the press, so resistance increases to match the natural strength curve. Full range of motion, maximal hypertrophy.

Large foot plate with full foot placement options
09

Large Foot Plate

Every size and body proportion trains comfortably, and the extra surface lets users bias different muscle groups.

Multiple re-rack points along the frame
10

Multiple Re-Rack Points

Start and stop the movement wherever needed. Every body size accommodated, re-rack at any position.

For Gym Owners

Built to Earn Its Floor Space

Premium strength equipment doesn't have to come from the USA, Italy or Germany. PHD Strength is engineered, built and supported here in Australia, and designed around what actually matters on a commercial floor.

Fits Every Member

Adjustable back, large footplate and multiple re-rack points mean every body size and mobility level trains properly, so no one's left out.

A Safer Floor

Lumbar support, automatic un-rack and the spotter feature reduce the injuries and complaints that cost you members.

A Destination Machine

A hero piece members seek your gym out for, and a visible point of difference from the chain down the road.

Australian Made

Designed and built locally, with local support. None of the long lead times, import and shipping costs, or poor after-sales service that come with imported brands.

Custom Colours

Make It Yours.

Every machine is powder-coated to order. Spin the machine in 3D, colour the moving parts and the frame, then send your exact build to us to spec.
